5 Chancery Lane
LS Estates / G&T
Project overview
General Demolition was appointed to deliver an extensive package of demolition, strip-out and enabling works at 5 Chancery Lane, supporting the major redevelopment of the existing building. The works extended across six storeys, roof level, basement and two sub-basements and required careful coordination within the constrained Central London location. The scope included a comprehensive internal strip-out, asbestos removal and removal of existing MEP services, together with significant structural demolition and alteration works. General Demolition also undertook demolition of the existing roof and glazed atrium, removal of lifts and associated equipment, and extensive structural cut-and-carve works to prepare the building for its new configuration. Temporary works were incorporated throughout the programme to maintain structural stability while the alterations were undertaken. A strong emphasis was placed on retaining and reusing the existing building fabric, supporting the wider redevelopment's sustainability objectives and targeted 86% retention and reuse rate. The project demonstrates General Demolition's capability to undertake complex structural and enabling works within an existing commercial building while balancing programme, safety, logistics and environmental performance.
